Do we have the courage to stop this?
In the article “Do We Have The Courage To Stop This?” by Nicholas D. Kristof talks about how there isn’t strong regulation when it come to buying a firearm but its lots of steps and rules for driving a bus, or buying a ladder or even safety issues for school lunches and because of it Nicholas think this is why more massacre is happening and why its mostly young adults shooting up malls, schools, and movie theaters. This article also talks how there should be more regulations and more standards for buying a gun. Like universal background checks and making serial numbers difficult to erase.
The article stated, “Children ages 5 to 14 in America are 13 times as likely to be murdered with guns as children in other industrialized countries, according to David Henmenway, a public health specialist at Harvard who has written an excellent book on gun violence.” Another example from the article is , “American schoolchildren are protected by codes that govern stairways and windows. School buses must meet safety standards, and the bus drivers have to pass test. Cafeteria food is regulated for safety. The only things we seem careless about are the things most likely to kill.” Another quote from the text is, “ More Americans die in homicides and suicides in six months than have died in the last 25 years in ever terrorist attack and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq combined.” My last quote that was stated in the text is, “We should impose a universal background check for gun buyers, even with private sales.”
I think they should upper the standards for buying a gun also because these people who is buying firearms are shooting up schools and other places. They are killing and hurting people that isn’t doing nothing at all. I agree with Nicholas. I think the should do better background checks. I also think they should up the age to like 23 or at least 21.
This article makes me think that the government need to take a close look into this issue because little kids is losing their life over nothing. I also think about how there isn’t standards for buying a gun but there is standards for buying a ladder. I also think about how crazy people is in the world today and how heartless they can be. I am a teenager that is living in this world and it make me a little scared that one of these massacres can happen at my school.

Marijuana law just creates
criminals
The article “Marijuana
law just creates criminals” talks about how a majority of blacks and Latinos
getting arrested because of how they be having the possession of marijuana. The
article also talks about the consequences you can be at risk for if you sell or
have the possession of marijuana. The article also talks about what would
happened if the cops caught you.
For example the
text had stated, “The majority of whom were black and Latino at a considerable
judicial and financial cost. Another example from the article is, “New York
City spends about $75 million every year
on arresting people for recreational marijuana possession. Another example is, “A
majority of these arrests happen only in certain neighborhoods. Indeed,
compounding the injustice is the fact that 85% of the people arrested are black
and Latino. Another example from the article is “Yet studies consistently show
that younger and affluent whites use marijuana in equal if not greater. My last
example is , “But what many people don’t know is that the state decriminalized
this offense more than 30 year ago, making private possession of less than
grams of marijuana a violation punishable by a $100 fine.”
I think they should
just make marijuana illegal because the cops is wasting their time on arresting
these people, when they can just out their energy in something more meaningful.
Also because more people use marijuana
now to day. Some people also use the
drug for medical reasons. I think they also should because more people wouldn’t
get arrested and everybody wouldn’t be
sitting in jail.
Will they ever
illegalize marijuana in New York? Why wasn’t any white people getting arrested?
Why only blacks and Latinos was getting arrested? Was these people also selling
marijuana?

In the article "Your Smartphone Is A Pain In The Neck" talks about how people is having back, neck and head pains because of how they is hunch over in a chair or at a table while texting or doing things on their laptops, or playing video games. This article also talks about how physical therapists is seeing this problem more in teens. It also talks about other risks that are cause by being hunch over. Dr.Dean Fishman named this problem these teens was feeling "Text Neck". This article also had suggested things you could do when you start feeling the pains.
For example the article had stated, "Chances are you’re reading this while leaning over a table or slumped back in a chair. Your head is tilted forward; your shoulders are curved. The position you’re in is probably causing you pain, whether you’re aware of it yet or not. Don’t worry, physical therapists have a diagnosis for the headaches, neck cricks and achy shoulders. They call it "Text Neck." Another example from the text is "Staying in what experts call the "forward head posture" can lead to muscle strain, disc herniations and pinched nerves. Over time, it can even flatten or reverse the natural curve of your neck." Another example from the text is "Try to take a deep breath in a slumped position. Now sit up straight and try again. Experts say slouching can reduce the capacity of your lungs by as much as 30%.A lack of oxygenated blood flowing through the body can potentially lead to vascular disease. And gastrointestinal problems can be caused by pressure placed on the organs in a bad posture" My last example is "Most important, the physical therapists agree, is taking frequent breaks while using any mobile device or desktop computer. About every 20 minutes, stand up, roll your shoulders and neck or go for a short walk to improve blood flow."
I think this is a good article because I be hunch over all the time when I be on my phone or on my laptop. I dont be noticing where the pain in my back and neck be coming from but I notice that it would just be hurting for a while and then the pain would go away. Now I know that it's coming from me being hunch over. Now I wont hunch over I would sit up straight to text on my phone. I also learned that I lose 30% of my oxygen from my lungs when i hunch over for a long period of time.
How many test on teens and kids did they do to provide this information that is given? Did they make sure only texting and e-mailing cause this pain? Can any sports or just bending over can cause this pain also?
