In the article Officials: Bomb suspects appears driven by faith by DAVID CRARY talks about the boston bombing. The article talks about how one of the brothers are dead and how the other brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was charge in his hospital room. The article also talks about how their Islam religious had movited them to set the bombs.
For example the article had stated, "The two brothers suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon appear to have been motivated by their religious faith but do not seem connected to any Muslim terrorist groups, U.S. officials said." Another example from the article stated, "Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was charged in his hospital room with using a weapon of mass destruction to kill. He was accused of joining with his older brother, Tamerlan - now dead - in setting off the pressure-cooker bombs that killed three people and wounded more than 200 a week ago." Another example from the article that was stated, "The criminal complaint containing the charges against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev shed no light on the motive. The charges carry the death penalty or up to life in prison." My last example from the article had stated, "The Massachusetts college student was listed in serious but stable condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the throat and other injuries. His 26-year-old brother died last week in a fierce gunbattle with police."
I think that the court system need to just send the teen to the death penalty because him and his brother killed people that wasnt doing anything, they killed a harmless child that was getting ice cream. I think they need to get the death penalty because they knew what they was trying to do, they looked up all the things they need to do to make their bombs, they had a plan at which event they was going to set the bombs off at. These brother sound like terrorist to me. These brothers really is sad because they said they acted on their actions because of religious reason and I know when they prayed to Allah I know he didnt say kill a bunch of people at a marathon. So I know they just did it because some of the people at the marathon didnt believe in Islam, so they decided to just kill them.
This article reminds me of the time when the 911 happened. The whole world was hurt by that situation and for these two brothers to try and do the same thing, I find that its very mean and devilish thing to do. but this make me think how evil and patheic some of the people in this world is. This make me think of morals people dont have. This make me think of how people can just kill others for any reason and walk around not caring about what they just did. This WORLD is sick and twisted. This also make me question people values. I also think about how powerful religious truly is.

In the article Korean War Part 2? by Choe Sang-Hun In Seoul talks about how the North Korea and South Korean might have another war because the North Korea president has been sending threating messages to south korea.
For example the article had stated, "But recent actions by North Korea and its young, unpredictable leader, Kim Jong Un, have raised the treat of a military confrontation. Last month, the North declared the armistice that ended the war and has largely kept the peace for the last 60 years "nullifed." and it threatened to launch a "pre- emptive nuclear strike" aganist South Korea and the United States." Another example from the articlke had stated, "Conditions within North Korea have sharply deteriorate in recent years. The economy is in shambles: Three-quarters of its factories sit idle." My last example from the article had stated, "In February, it conducted a third nuclear test against the wishes of its only major ally, China."
I think this man Kim Jong Un, is trying to make his prove something to his people by threating the U.S. I think he should stop with his threats because one down he is going to say the wrong words or hit one of the countries withe them nuclear bombs he keep testing and he is going to break out a war he didnt want to start. I also think what he is doing is wrong because South Korea and no other state is doing anything to harm his people or country so I think he should just clam down and be peaceful like the other countries are. I think Kim jong isnt a good leader because a good leader would want peace and make allies but he want war for no reason at all.
This article help me think me about this world and what things it went though and still is going though today in time. I notice that times havent change so much since back when. I also notice that people and leaders is always for them selfs and nolt really for their citizens. But I never knew that korea had a north and south that was called its own state. This remind me of when slavery was in and how the north was fighting the south because the south wanted to still own slave but the north didnt want slavery and more. but with korea it was just the wanted to run the south and the people in the south wanted their own freedom and government. This article also reminds me of how controling this world is and have people is greedy for land, money and anything else that is valueable.

Time For A Raise?
In the article "Time For A Raise" by Patricia Smith talks about how President Obama is trying to get minimum wage to go up from $7.25 to $9.00 per hour. But some people are against it because if they have to pay empolyers more money they would have to fire some of their help.
In the article it had stated, "Obama wants congress to raise the federal minimum wage to $9 an hour from $7.25, which would be the first increase since 2009." Another quote that were opposition. Many companies that hire low-wage workers have opposed raising the minimum wage because it increases their cost of doing business and, they say, makes them less able to hire new workers or give current employees raises." My last example from the passage that was stated, "Business owner say that rasing the minimum wage also exerts upward pressure on other wages."
I think that obama is right about people are not going to be able to survive on a income of 7 dollars an hour because price keep going up on everything. I also think that the raise would be a big help towards families and also towards stores. I think if people make more money they can spent more money at stores buying things instead of hardly having money to buy some food for the children at the end of the day. I also disagree because business wouldnt be able to keep all their workers and it would be alot of people that would help to run their households. I also disagree because I wouldnt be able to get a summer job no more because no business would be hiring nobody. I think it going to be hard for me to get a job in a later on in the future if the business wind up having to pay workers more money. I think it going to also affect the way I pay for collage. I think I would have a hard time because I would have to take care of myself and I also think Im going to be straggling and imma be in in debt.
This reminds me of a time when my mom had a hard time taking care of me and my brother because she wasnt making enough money because she was a young teen mother and she also had bills and children to take care of. She was staggling because she needed more money but she couldnt get a better job because she only had a high school ecducation. But now in time she has a job that pays a little bit better but she is still making minimum wage. So I feel if obama raise the minimum wage to the 9 dollars to start with I think she would be straggling as much no more and she will have a more relaxing life.

I Want My Rights
A lot of times when you're black and gay, you don't know whether the discrimination is due to your blackness or your gayness.
Discrimination is discrimination.
We're not talking about behavior; we're talking about status.
He has lived a gay life.
Now 43, he recalls moments.
Moments when he hid his homosexuality.
He could conceal his homosexuality.
He could not conceal his race.
Mr. Prince, who lives in Manhattan, is black.
But like many other blacks, he is angry that leaders of the gay rights movement and some prominent blacks draw parallels between the civil rights struggle of the 60's and homosexuals' fight now for legal and social equality.
I just want freedom.
Freedom so I can be a homosexuality and not be discriminated.
I want to be free.
I want my rights, my right to be gay, even if I have to fight.

http://www.nytimes.com/1993/06/28/us/blacks-rejecting-gay-rights-as-a-battle-equal-to-theirs.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm
The way I picked my poem was that I had went on NewYorkTimes website and I had searched the topic black people rights. Then that when I had went through all the articles, until I had came aross the one I did my poem for. I composed my poem from this article because this poem was talking about how African-American is discriminating their own race because of homosexuality and it also talks about how gay's want their equal rights like everyone else. My poem say that this guy is fighting for his rights as a homosexual but people keep comparing homosexual right movement with a civil right movement. But all he want is to be free and have his rights as a gay male. My poem make a point of being gay people are going to judge and be against "gayness". It was hard to make a found poem because you have to have the right article with the right words that you can use. the way I went about my poem was I just used the words I had and re-arranged them and I had used some lines straight from out the poem. I think making my found poem was worth it because I had a chance to try something new and also because I need my grade for it.

Slaughter of the African Elephants
In the article "Slaughter of the African Elephants" by Samanta Strindberg and Fiona Maisels talks about how elephants are getting treated bad and getting killed because people are selling their tasks for money. The article also stated that the elephants are starting to decreasing.
In the article had stated, "A staggering 62 percent vanished from central African african between 2002 and 2011 , according to a study we have just published with 60 other scientists in the journal PL0S one. It was the largest such study ever conducted in the central African forests, where elephants are being poached out of existence for their ivory." Another example from the article was, "An animal elephant's tusks have become bling for consumers who have no idea or simply don't care that it was obtained by inflicting terror, horrendor pain and death on thinking, feeling, self-aware beings. My last exmaple from the passage is, "We protect those in harm's way . We need to show this compassion to forest elephants, giving them space to roam and protection danger."
I think that these people who is killing these elephants need to stop because the elephants are decreasing. I also think its wrong for these people to kill the elephants for their task but then again I know they need the money to take care of their families. I think if they need money that bad I'm sure they can make it some other way besides killing the elephants or any other animal. I think its really wrong for these hunters to kill these animals because when they are killing them, they are killing one of the baby elephant mom or dad and its sad because that baby depends on their parent. I feel if the situation was the other way around and the animal was the killer and the killer was the animal they would see how wrong and evil it is to just kill for a couple of dollars and the next time they would think twice before they kill another elephant.
As I was sitting here I started to have some questions about this situation thats happening. Will a law be pass after the elephants decrease to a pacific number stating that hunters can no longer hunt them? Do these hunters find what they doing is wrong? Will they ever stop hunting the elephants? What will happen if the hunters kill all the elephants will they be fined?

TRYING TIMES
In the article "TRYING TIMES" talks about how hard it is to get a job without a collage degree and even if you even graduate collage its still hard to get hired. The article also stated that it maybe hard to get hire becuase of the United States is recoverying from the bad economy and it had stated its progress.
For example the article had stated,"The U.S. economy is slowly recovering from the Great Recession. In fact, the youth unemployment rate is far below its peak of 18 percent in 2009. But more than 12 million Americans are still unemployed." Another quote that was stated was, "The difficult job market is coming at a time when paying for a collage degree ." My last quote for the article that was stated, "For those without a collage degree, the situation is even tougher. The youth unemployment rate for high school graduates is almost 19 percent, compared to 8 percent for those with collage degrees.
I think that it is true that its hard trying to get a job in the economy because Im a teenage in the economy that is trying to get a summer job and its hard because business not hiring. Its also hard because Im still in high school and Im under the age 18. Most jobs that is hiring what people that is a high school graduates and people that is 18 and older and it makes me mad because I need a job for the summer so I can having my own money. But in this bad economy I dont think I would be able to find one.
This article reminds me of a times when my cousin was looking for a job and he was getting turned down because he didn't have a collage degree and also because he's not out his GED program yet. But its crazy because he's 19 and he have no crime recorder and also because he dosent do drugs. He kept looking and looking but still no one is trying to hire him. He apply to city jobs because they make a little more money then jobs micky d's and wendy's. But after two years of looking he still doesn't have a job. But he is finish his GED program and he is still job searching in this bad economy.

SISTERS IN WAR
In the article "SISTERS IN WAR" James Dao talks about how the rights for females to join the Army and Navy has expanded. The article also talked about how women rights has expanded over the past years.
In the article it had stated "Military officials say that more than 200,000 jobs could now open to women, including in elite Special Operations commando units like the Navy SEALs and Delta Force." Another example that was stated in the article was that if women wanted to join combat they wasn't going to lower their standards for women to enter but the army has. Th article had stated, "The Army, for example, currently allows women to pass their physical fitness tests with fewer push-ups and a slower two mile run than men." The last example that was stated from the article was, " A nationwide Quinnipiac University poll conducted a year ago found that three quarters of those surveyed favored allowing women to serve in units that engage in close combat."
I think that women deserve the right to join the army and navy because I feels as anything a men can do a female can do even better. I think that these women can handle a family and also be in the serving for our country. I think that the people that think women cant do something like be in the army without lowering the standards for them is very close minded and they are some haters because I'm pretty sure that a women can do a hundreds push-ups better then any men and maybe even faster that any men. I think that women does a better job at serving our country because females are very protects.
This reminds me of a time when my dad thought I couldn't ride a dirtybike because I was a girl and he thought I wouldnt be able to turn the gears because they are very hard to turn without gloves on and also because he thought I cant ride one. But I could and when we all had went out the airport to ride I was the first on the bike and gone. Not only did I know how to ride the dirtbike but I could work the gears better then all the boys out there. But it was the day I proved to my dad and everybody else wrong that I could do something better than them. I also was invited to ride with the boys who had the 4 wheelers out that day. So this shows that female can do want ever they put their mind to.

CYBERWAR
In the article "CYBERWAR" by Patricia Smith talks about how there is a cyberwar between the United States,China, and Iran. The article starts to point out different reasons why these cyberwars is happening and how these cyberwars could get dangerous.
For the article had stated, "Iran, on the other hand , is trying to cause damage. American intelligence officials beileve Iran, in addition to being responsible for the cyberattack on Saudi Aramco, engineered computer attacks that in September intermittently took offline some of American's largest banks-including Wells Fargo and PNC-and disrupted the online banking websites of Capital One and BB&T. Another from the text that was stated, "China's government, are believed to attack American's computers systems daily. Mostly, they try to steal corporate and pentagon secrets rather than inflict damage." The last example that was stated was that, "In 2009, a sophistcated computer worm known as Stuxnet wiped out a fifth of Iran's centrifuges, which are used to enrich uranium, setting back its ability to make nuclear weapons by several years. Many analysts believe the U.S. and/or Israel were behind that atttack as well."
I think that these cyberwars are very dangerous because what if one of the countries get sick of the United Stated setting virus on there computer systems and decide they is going to send a nulear bomb over then we all is in danger and will get killed. I think these cyberwars are really dangerous because China is trying to get our serects from our computer and what if they do crack our system I think they would have our serects and also like the passwords to our trains and airport route. I think they would mess with the system to where our ports would fly right into eachother and the trains would stop running while people is on them. I also think this cyberwar could get heat to where a war would break out again.
This article remind me of the time when I was on the computer and I saw a false advertising ad talking about of you click the button you would win a iphone and I had clicked the ad. by a accident and all I saw was my computer screen had turned blacked and all these green number start to run across the screen. So I had turned my computer off thinking it was just my computer acting up again and when the next day I went to turn my computer on it was a big virus in there. I cant get on the internet or even play my computer games, I was upset. I had told my grandmom what had happened and she had got a man to fix my laptop to where I didnt have the virus no more but from that day on I didnt click any of the advertising again. Everytime they appear I just X them out.

DRUGS + YOUR BODY
In the article "DRUGS+YOUR BODY" by The Nation Institute on Drug Abuse talks about how people body is amazing organism and how your should take in the wrong subtances like using drugs because you can harm your health. The article also had example how differnt drugs harms your health in different ways.
For example the article had stated, "Your body also has a pretty awesome immuse system that can recognized and destory millions of biological invaders to protect your health. Another example that was stated from the text was, "As strong and resilient as our bodies are, alcohol, tabacco, and other drugs are incredibly powerful in their ability to create illness and disease." The last example that was mention in the text was, "Snorting cocaine can destroy cartilage in the nose, like the septum-the hard tissue that divides the nose into nostrils. This can lead to nose bleed and can decrease the ability to smell."
After reading this article I think that I'm going to take care of my body because first off drugs is an addiction and also because drugs are bad for your body. As I was reading I saw images of how your body is affected from drugs. I saw a image of a man skin that look like he had bugs under his skin and the spots was like a bloody red color and it was developing on his face and it loooked really nasty. I wouldn't want my face to look like that. I would also start encouraging other people to do not to do drugs because I would want them to damage their organs and also to have cancer or anything else thats bad to happen to them.
This article bring up bad memories for me because my grandmother on the mother side had died two years ago from lung cancer. She was a cigarette smoker. She was smoking cigarettes for years and years. Then the year she decided to quit for good she was diagnosed with lung cancer, she had a long and hard battle with it but she died a year after she had it. After her death it showed me that life is to short and also that drugs, and cigarettes isn't worth me dying from or from me have bad skin or breath. So thats why I wouldn't use drugs and I would try to encourge others to try to stay away from drugs.

In the article "Historically Incorrect Canooding" by Stephanie Coontz talks about how the day "Valentine's Day" mean has changed over years. The article also talks about how marriage has change and how different it is.
In the article had stated many different points about marriage and about the true meaning of Valentine's Day. For example the article had stated that, "For thousands of years, love, passion, and marriage were considered a rare and usually undesirable combination. Valentine's Day was originally created by the Roman Catholic Church as a limit on sexual passion." another example that was stated was, "Even though young people centuries later turned the hoilday into an occasion to celebrate romantic love and sexual attraction, few of them expected to marry on the basis of such irrational emotions."
After reading this article I became very glad that the times had change because people was having arranged marriages and they was not happy with the person they was arrange with. It was like they had to settle for less when the deserve much more in a person then what they had. I also found it sad that females didnt have a chance to fall in love with somebody they would love to marriage. I also found it sad because the two people that was paired together didnt want to be in the relationship and they wasnt truly happy and in love with eachother. I glad that in 2013 I would be able to be with the person I love, care for, and that I am passionate about, somebody that I would like to have children with and that I can myself spenting the rest of my live with. I'm also glad because when I choose somebody to marry I would had a chance to get to know and meet him in person first. I also like the meaning of Valentine's Day in 2013 because it seems so much better and more positive than what it ment back then now.
This article makes me think of my aunt and unce relationship because it seem like they just had settle with eachother like these people had too. They have 3 kids now but they dont seem like they love eachother because when they is in public they isnt passionate with eachother. I never had ever seen them kiss or even tell eachother they loved eachother. But I have seen them fuss over stupid things like whick one of them was going to drive or who was going to stay up with the baby. From being a outsider and looking in at their marriage I choose to not get marriage and if i do i would have better communication with my partner and we would be more loving towards eachother. We would also be better parents towards our children.

“Rare Case Of JUSTICE”
In the
article “Rare Case Of JUSTICE” by Graham Bowley In Kabul talks about how in
Afghanistan their women and the teenage are forced to get married early, they
are being tortured, they are being traded to settle debts. So many bad things
be happening and a teenage girl named Sahar Gul. The article also stated that
since the U.S troops been over Afghanistan women had more rights, and freedom
to attend school and there was less underage marriages and the women worry if
the troops leave they would lose their rights and everything would get worst.
For example
the article had stated, “In 2009, a new law banned violence against women and
set new penalties for rape, underage and force marriage, and other abuses. Many
more girls are in school.” Another example from the article is, “In areas
controlled by the Afghan government and protected by U.S. and NATO forces,
those bans have been lifted and women have run for office, taken government posts,
and become more involved in Afghan society.” Another example “In such a
climate, the fear is that Sahar Gul’s successful rescue may turn out to be an
aberration rather that a sign of progress, and that it will not help those women
whose suffering is not discovering.” My last example is, “On May 1, the judge
declared Sahar Gul’s three in-laws guilty on national television.”
I think
that their government need to really step in and in force their laws for the rights
for their women because this article is really sad like there are kids being
forced for marriage, and there is little girls who are being prostituded to settle
debts. I think this is wrong because they only teens they should be having fun
and enjoying life, and going to school but they being force to marry, and be
getting treated bad not only from their husbands but by their families too.
When the
U.S. troops leave would they protect the women? Would their women would still have
to right to attend school or would they be protituded?

"The New Face Of America"
In the article "The New Face Of America" by Veronia Majerol talks about how soon their will be a change in the United States to where whites would start fading away to when it wouldn't be also many and the black and Latino population would go up to a higher percentage. By 2050 researches believe that the change and people would start noticing it even more.
For example the article had stated, "Last spring that minority births-Hispanic, black, Asian, American India, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and Alsaka Native-now outnumber those of non-Hispanic whites." Another example from the text is, "But unlike in decades past, minority population are no longer concentrated in major urban center: They now outnumber whites in 348 of the more than 3,000 counties across the U.S." Another example from the article that was stated was, "Social changes are also driving the shift. The number of mixed race marriages--and, as a result, mixed -race children- is on the rise." The last example from the text that was stated, "An estimated 12.5 million of the 24 million eligible Hispanic voters cast ballots, with 71 percent voting for obama, according to exit polls.
I think by 2050 that the population of blacks and latinos would become higher than what it is now in 2013 because so many teens in these two cultures are keeping having babies. I also think this because families are much bigger in these two culture like their might be 7 brothers and sisters in one house. I also think whites percentage is going to go down because some tends not to have children and when they do, they might just have one and when their child get to the age to have children they might make a choice not have kids.
If whites start having more kids starting from 2013 onto 2050 would this change the future results? What if the Afrian-American population get highter by 2050 what would the new percentage be and would they over come the latinos? What if the whites keep fading away what would happen to the white percentage, would they even be in reseaches anymore?

"Give Lance another chance?"
In the article "Give Lance another chance?" Randy Cohen,Roxanne Jones,Kevin Powell, Frida Ghitis,Jeff Pearlman, and Shawn Klein talks about many people opinions about Lance Armstrong using performance-enhancing drugs. One person thought he could be redeem if he come clean and maybe his ban will be reasonable, another person throught since hes 42 he should just forget about it riding again, another said we hall have flaws and make mistakes, so we should judge him. Another person said well he getting point out for using drugs to cheat, all big-time cyclist should confess if they used drugs to cheat too. one person said armstrong isnt trustworthy.
The article had stated, "But Lance Armstrong, who maliciously lied for more than a decade, who I watched from my sideline seat in sports try to crush the voice of anyone who dared to call him a cheater. No, he gets no second chance from me. There are too many reasons to question his apology. Is he trying to stave off fleeing endorsement dollars? Save his LiveStrong Foundation? Avoid paying back all the sponsors he defrauded? He could at least pay back the U.S. Postal Service, especially if those are taxpayer dollars." Another example from the article stated, "Do I think he should be allowed to race again? No. Lance Armstrong racing again is not truly an option anyway -- he's almost 42.Just the same, I am thrilled that he has -- at long last -- begun to come clean. There are lessons to be learned here, beyond those pertaining to cycling. And day's end, when the cheering has stopped, there is something to be said for trying your best, even if your best doesn't result in triumph." Another example from the text is, "He cheated in a sport known for its widespread cheating; that doesn't justify his use but it does put his actions into an understandable context that makes it easier to excuse the use. Further, if Armstrong cooperates with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, his lifetime ban from cycling ought to be reduced to something more reasonable." My last example from the article stated, "See the Lance Armstrong story as a tragedy and an opportunity. It's a tragedy because he lied for so long to many people. Lying is not the way to live one's life, ever, especially if you've positioned yourself as a role model and a hero. But I am not here to judge nor convict him. We all have our flaws, we all fall short as human beings. So, yes, I do think anyone can be redeemed, and should be given another chance if he shows true remorse and make amends for his bad deeds."
I think that Armsrtong lifetime ban isnt bad at all because this man cheated for years and never once throught about the how hard the people he went up aganist worked to be the best and how hard they trained their body to ride a bike for a days at a time. I really dislike him because I feel he's not even give a remoseful apology to his fans and the people he competed aganist, he's just going it because he have to. But Armstrong need to learn from this situation, and think twice before using a drug in a sport.
This article makes me think how careless people is and how people would do anything to cheat and get by in life. This also make me think how people dont think on their action before doing and it wines up affecting them in the long run.

"Civil War Raises Question About When To Intervene"
In the article "Civil War Raises Question About When To Intervene" by Ja'ani Delaney talks about how their is a huge civil war going on in Syria, and the article also talks about how Syria need help to fight this war . The article speak on who was involve with helping them fight. The article also talks about the will the U.S intervene with this war.
In the article it had stated, "The intensity of the fighting that has accompanied the Syrian civil war is making it dangerous for many civilians to remain in their homes. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that over 200,000 people have fled their homes for calmer parts of Syria or neighboring countries such as Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon."Another example from the text stated, "The fighting in Syria is primarily between the military loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and anti-regime protest fighters. However, in an attempt to justify his brutal crackdown, Assad has blamed foreign actors and terrorists for the initial uprising and continued violence."Another example from the article stated, "The opposition is a patchwork of groups fighting to overthrow Assad and establish a democracy in his place. The opposition includes the Free Syrian Army, the Syrian Liberation Army and fighters from across the region. Terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda have even joined the fight, worrying outside observers."Another example from the article is,"While the U.S. and its allies support the anti-regime groups, they have said they will not intervene militarily unless Assad uses chemical weapons." My last example from the article stated, "International military support of the rebels in Libya last year was credited with helping bring down dictator Moammar Gadhafi, but each conflict is different and there are worries that deep religious and ethnic divisions in Syria, as well as Assad’s close ties to Iran, could erupt into an even more dangerous situation."
I think the U.S shouldnt help because our soldiers had just gotten finish fighting a war, and also because if the U.S help Syria with their war, the other countries might depend on the U.S to help them fight their wars if one break out. I also think they shouldnt help because this war with Syria have nothing to do with the United States so i think they shold just leave it alone.
If they dont start using chemical weapons on their people and they just keep killing them, will the U.S get involve then? Will the U.S help the Syria people relocate over here in the U.S.?

In the article "All Work and No Play:Why Your Kids Are More Anxious,Depressed by Esther Entin talks about kids not having enough play time to play with their friends and how their free time is spent with school, their parents and other activies. This article also talks about because the kids are not playing and they are lacking play affects emotional, how its rise their anxiet and how its making them depress and its also causing attention and self control. The article also think kids sould have more fun time so they didnt have any of these affects,
In the article it had stated, "An article in the most recent issue of the American Journal of Play details not only how much children's play time has declined, but how this lack of play affects emotional development, leading to the rise of anxiety, depression, and problems of attention and self control." Another example from the text stated, "The researchers found that compared to 1981, children in 1997 spent less time in play and had less free time. They spent 18 percent more time at school, 145 percent more time doing school work, and 168 percent more time shopping with parents. The researchers found that, including computer play, children in 1997 spent only about eleven hours per week at play." The article also stated, "There has been a significant increase in anxiety and depression from 1950 to present day in teens and young adults and Gray cites several studies documenting this rise. One showed that five to eight times as many children and college students reported clinically significant depression or anxiety than 50 years ago and another documented a similar trend in the fourteen- to sixteen-year-old age group between 1948 and 1989." My last example from the text is, "Gray suggests that the reduced ability to regulate emotions may be a key factor in the development of some anxiety disorders. "Individuals suffering from anxiety disorders describe losing emotional control as one of their greatest fears. They are afraid of their own fear, and therefore small degrees of fear generated by mildly threatening situations lead to high degrees of fear generated by the person's fear of losing control." Adults who did not have the opportunity to experience and cope with moderately challenging emotional situations during play are more at risk for feeling anxious and overwhelmed by emotion-provoking situations in adult life."
I think the reseachers are right about kids spenting to much time with school, homework and other activties because now in the time kids do alot sports and other clubs and it does waste time that they could be outside playing with their friends. I also that kids to be outside playing becuase their nothing be social with the kids on the block and they not developing real friendships with people they would meet on their our.
This article reminds me of a time when I moved on a new block and because i spent so much time with school and i was also in a after school program i didnt get time to meet anyone on my block and became lonely and sad becuase i would be on the steps while the other kids was playing hide and seek. This reminds me of that time becuase when i finally had gotten friends to play with and I was outside playing, my grandmom would also make me go with her somewhere even if she had to go to the store I had to go. So I know how these kids felt.

"Philadelphia Superintendent Identifies schools he intends to close"
In the article "Philadelphia Superintendent Identifies schools he intends to close" by Kristen A. Graham talks about some high schools, middle, and also some elementary schools that is intending to be shut down in the up coming June. The article also talks about closing programs to save money. The article also stated where some of these schools will relocate at.
For example the article had stated, "Overall, 22 elementary, four middle, and 11 high schools, in nearly every neighborhood of the city, would close if Hite's recommendation are adopted by the Schools Reform Commission, which will vote on the shutdowns in march." Another example from the text is, "Thirty-seven buildings would close for a savings of about 28 million, money the nearly broke district says it needs to survive." Another example from the article is, "Academics are also a major consideration in the changes, officals promised. The schools targeted are largely under-enrolled and underperforming."Another example from the text is, "Communications Teach High in Southwest Philadelphia would be move into Bartram High, and Robeson High into Sayre." My last example from the article is, "Next year, Stawberry Mansion students would be sent to Benjamin Franklin High."
I think they shouldn't shut down these schools because they is spenting more money then less, because for the students that didnt need a transpass to get to school might need one when they relocate. I also do think they shouldn't because they are just making the class size bigger, and also because it would be harder for most students to be on task and get their work done if its 32 students in the class talking. I think they shouldn't shut down the schools also because it might be hard for some students to adapt to the change, because some might be used to a small school and if they have to be mixed in with a biggger school it can be hard to get use to the change. It's also not a good idea because it can be hard for some students to get to school because they were so use to their old bus routes.
This article reminded me of a time when my old school had burned down and we had to relocate to a new building in North PhillY, and it was hard for me to get use to not being able to walk around the corner to my school. I had to ride a school bus to get there, but it was hard because the first day I had to look for my bus number and when we had gotta to the new school it was hard to adapt to the environment because nothing we in place and our teachers didnt know where any of their teaching supplies was. It was also different because i had to find the restroom, lunchroom, gym and everything else. So I understand how these students will feel when they relocate to another school.
