“Attention Disorder or not, Pills to Help in school”

In the articles “Attention Disorder or not, Pills to help in school” talks about how doctors had started giving pills that help kids stay focus in school but the pills are normally use for A.D.H.D kids. They use these pills because it help them pay more attention in class and its a lot cheaper than changing their environment or the situation these kids was in. So these doctors gave them pills.

There was two different sides to this report. One side to this report was bad. It was bad because these doctors was giving these kids A.D.H.D pills and the pills had bad side affects and the pills might have been interfering with the development of their brain. For example the article states “These children are still in the developmental phase and we still don’t know how these drugs biologically affect the developing brain,” Dr. William Graf said. Another quote to show these pills was bad for the kids that took them is that in the article it states “Doctors are exposing children to unnecessary risks. Reported side effects of the drugs have included growth suppression increased blood pressure and, in rare cases, psychotic episodes”. These are some of the examples why the A.D.H.D pills was bad for the kids.

But there was also a good side to these A.D.H.D pills for example one parent couldn’t stop thanking Dr. Anderson enough for the pills. For example the article states “Jacqueline Williams said she cant thank Dr. Anderson enough for diagnosing A.D.H.D. in her children- Eric,15: chekiara,14: and shamya, 11- and prescribing concerta, along -acting stimulant, for them all. She said each was having trouble listening to instructions and concentrating on school work. Another example from the article is “The Rocaforts called Quintn into the kitchen and asked him to describe why he had been given addall. “To help me focus on my school work, my homework, listening to mom and dad, and not doing what I used to do to my teachers, to make them mad,” he said. These are my examples of why the A.D.H.D. pills was good for the kids.

I think they shouldn’t gave the kids A.D.H.D. pills to help them. Even though they couldn’t change the environment they didn’t need pills that had bad side affects and other effect that would harm them in the future. The pills was use for A.D.H.D kids and these kids didn’t have A.D.H.D. So I think they needed to get sued. I also think the kids parents needed to ask questions instead of giving their child prescription drugs. The kids could of gotten addicted to the pills. They could of think they need the pills to focus and do better when they really didn’t.

What if one of these kids had gotten really sick from these drug what would these doctor have done? Why would these doctors prescribe pills to kids that didn’t have A.D.H.D ? Why would these doctors give these pills out to kids knowing they had bad side effects? Why didn’t the parents ask questions about these pills before they gave them to their kids?

In this article “Using iPad’s before sleep can lead to a poor night ‘s sleep” written by Stephen Adams talks about how playing on your phone or iPad for a period of time at nighttime can make your brain think’s its still daylight outside when it really night time. What make your brain think’s its still daylight outside is the blueish light your iPad or phone give off when you is using it. In this article it also talks about how researchers did a study to find out this piece of information out.

The article had includes the study information the researchers had did with the 13 volunteers. It had also included the study that the researchers did on their our to find this information out. For example in the article one of the facts they had found out was that “A dark room triggers the body's production of melatonin, a hormone that acts as a messenger telling the body it's time to sleep, and lighted screens interfere with that message. Any light can make it tough to fall asleep..., but light of shorter wavelengths, such as the bluish tints emitted from an LED-backlit screen, suppresses nocturnal melatonin, according to the sleep study. The brighter the light and longer the exposure, the more difficulty it will cause in falling asleep.”

Another quote from the text states “It is not just a good night’s sleep that could be jeopardized by too much late night screen time. Researchers know that persistent disruption to sleep patterns can lead to an increased risk of obesity, and even breast cancer.”

These quote stood out to me the most because I never knew that your light from your phone or iPad could make you have a hard time sleeping at night. I also didn’t know people had a hormone that triggers the brain when it was time to go to bed. It also stands because I didn’t know that you can get breast cancer from not getting enough sleep.

I think this was a good topic. This topic was great to me because it informed me about things I didn’t know. For example now when its time for me to go to sleep I will and I wont play on my phone because I don’t want breast cancer later on in life. I also thinks it was good because who would have ever knew that light would effect your sleeping.

How long would it take to get breast cancer if you keep playing on your ipad or phone at night? How is that if you don’t sleep you will be obesity? How about if you use your ipad or phone before you take a shower at night then lay down would that make a difference or you would still have a hard time sleeping?

In the article “Texting May Be Taking a Toll” by Katie Hafner, the author talks about how texting is affecting teens. It also talks about problems that’s going with texting. It also point out things you can do to text less.

One of the problems that Katie Hafner brings up is that teens is texting to much and not worrying about their grades. For example in the article it says “The phenomenon is beginning to worry physicians and psychologists, who say it is leading to anxiety, distraction in school, falling grades, repetitive stress injury and sleep deprivation”. Another problem the author found was teens was depending on their parents though a text message to help them with the simple things instead of them trying to figure the problems out y them selves. For example “Now you have adolescents who are texting their mothers 15 times a day, asking things like, ‘Should I get the red shoes or the blue shoes?’” These are some problems the author pointed out in the article.

I think this articles is directed to all teens and in my opinion some teens can keep up their grades and go to bed on time for school the next day and still keep their phones while doing these things. I also think some teens is responsible enough to know when it’s time to text and when its time to get work done.

What made the author write this article? What made her directly point out teens for the most of this article? How she didn’t know that the girl just wanted a second opinion from somebody else?
