In this article “Using iPad’s before sleep can lead to a poor night ‘s sleep” written by Stephen Adams talks about how playing on your phone or iPad for a period of time at nighttime can make your brain think’s its still daylight outside when it really night time. What make your brain think’s its still daylight outside is the blueish light your iPad or phone give off when you is using it. In this article it also talks about how researchers did a study to find out this piece of information out.

The article had includes the study information the researchers had did with the 13 volunteers. It had also included the study that the researchers did on their our to find this information out. For example in the article one of the facts they had found out was that “A dark room triggers the body's production of melatonin, a hormone that acts as a messenger telling the body it's time to sleep, and lighted screens interfere with that message. Any light can make it tough to fall asleep..., but light of shorter wavelengths, such as the bluish tints emitted from an LED-backlit screen, suppresses nocturnal melatonin, according to the sleep study. The brighter the light and longer the exposure, the more difficulty it will cause in falling asleep.”

Another quote from the text states “It is not just a good night’s sleep that could be jeopardized by too much late night screen time. Researchers know that persistent disruption to sleep patterns can lead to an increased risk of obesity, and even breast cancer.”

These quote stood out to me the most because I never knew that your light from your phone or iPad could make you have a hard time sleeping at night. I also didn’t know people had a hormone that triggers the brain when it was time to go to bed. It also stands because I didn’t know that you can get breast cancer from not getting enough sleep.

I think this was a good topic. This topic was great to me because it informed me about things I didn’t know. For example now when its time for me to go to sleep I will and I wont play on my phone because I don’t want breast cancer later on in life. I also thinks it was good because who would have ever knew that light would effect your sleeping.

How long would it take to get breast cancer if you keep playing on your ipad or phone at night? How is that if you don’t sleep you will be obesity? How about if you use your ipad or phone before you take a shower at night then lay down would that make a difference or you would still have a hard time sleeping?

  1. Excellent post Zykiia. FYI: I don't think that the lack of sleep CAUSES breast cancer--there is just an increased risk of getting it if you don't get enough sleep. 100
