“Will Climate Change Get Some Respect Now”
In the article “Will Climate Change Some Respect Now?” talks about the different changes in the weather in the past years. The article also talks about research that people did to find out that the climate is changing. This article also use President Obama and Mitt Romney campaign trail because Nicholas D.Kristof , Columnist, and the New York Times thinks the change in climate is an important topic that should be talked about.
This article had listed several reasons of why the changing climates is important and need to be brought to people’s attention. For example the article had stated “For the extreme hot weather of the recent past, there is virtually no explanation other than climate change.” James E. Hansen ,a NASA climate scientist , recently wrote in the Washington post. Another quote from the text that was stated “Sandy was particularly destructive because it was prevented from moving back out to sea by a “blocking pattern” associated with the jet stream. There’s debate about this, but one recent study suggested that melting sea ice in the Arctic may lead to such blocking”. The article also had stated “Democrats have been absent on climate change, but Republicans have been even more stubborn. Their failure is odd, because in other areas of national security Republicans pride themselves on their preparedness. Romney doesn’t want to wait until he sees an Iranian nuclear weapon before acting, so why the lack of acting on the climate change?” My last quote from the text is “There are no easy solutions, but we may need to invest in cleaner energy, impose a carbon tax or other curbs on greenhouse gases, and , above all ,rethink how we can reduce the toll of a changing climate. For example , we may not want to rebuild in some coastal areas that have been hammered by sandy”. These are example of why this article talks about why climate change is importanting and why it needed to be brought to people attention.
I think in this article they shouldn’t had use Obama and Romney campaign to get a point across. But I do agree that climate changes is important because one day the united states is going to have a really bad hurricane to where its going to effect every state. I think when that happen everybody is going to lose their houses and cars. I also think some people is going to die from the really bad flooding and from getting hurt. For example like the people that live near the shore they might become another hurricane Katrina story.
What motived this article to come to the light and give people this knowledge about climate change? What made Nicholas D. Kristof to make an argument about the importantness of the climate change? Out of all the research Nicholas did is any of the information is at less 90% dependable?
Good post, with an excellent summary and good detail. I'm not sure what you mean when you say this: "they shouldn’t had use Obama and Romney campaign to get a point across." I think Kristof was criticizing both Romney and Obama for not talking about the issue enough. Was that a bad move on his part? 100
