“Attention Disorder or not, Pills to Help in school”
In the articles “Attention Disorder or not, Pills to help in school” talks about how doctors had started giving pills that help kids stay focus in school but the pills are normally use for A.D.H.D kids. They use these pills because it help them pay more attention in class and its a lot cheaper than changing their environment or the situation these kids was in. So these doctors gave them pills.
There was two different sides to this report. One side to this report was bad. It was bad because these doctors was giving these kids A.D.H.D pills and the pills had bad side affects and the pills might have been interfering with the development of their brain. For example the article states “These children are still in the developmental phase and we still don’t know how these drugs biologically affect the developing brain,” Dr. William Graf said. Another quote to show these pills was bad for the kids that took them is that in the article it states “Doctors are exposing children to unnecessary risks. Reported side effects of the drugs have included growth suppression increased blood pressure and, in rare cases, psychotic episodes”. These are some of the examples why the A.D.H.D pills was bad for the kids.
But there was also a good side to these A.D.H.D pills for example one parent couldn’t stop thanking Dr. Anderson enough for the pills. For example the article states “Jacqueline Williams said she cant thank Dr. Anderson enough for diagnosing A.D.H.D. in her children- Eric,15: chekiara,14: and shamya, 11- and prescribing concerta, along -acting stimulant, for them all. She said each was having trouble listening to instructions and concentrating on school work. Another example from the article is “The Rocaforts called Quintn into the kitchen and asked him to describe why he had been given addall. “To help me focus on my school work, my homework, listening to mom and dad, and not doing what I used to do to my teachers, to make them mad,” he said. These are my examples of why the A.D.H.D. pills was good for the kids.
I think they shouldn’t gave the kids A.D.H.D. pills to help them. Even though they couldn’t change the environment they didn’t need pills that had bad side affects and other effect that would harm them in the future. The pills was use for A.D.H.D kids and these kids didn’t have A.D.H.D. So I think they needed to get sued. I also think the kids parents needed to ask questions instead of giving their child prescription drugs. The kids could of gotten addicted to the pills. They could of think they need the pills to focus and do better when they really didn’t.
What if one of these kids had gotten really sick from these drug what would these doctor have done? Why would these doctors prescribe pills to kids that didn’t have A.D.H.D ? Why would these doctors give these pills out to kids knowing they had bad side effects? Why didn’t the parents ask questions about these pills before they gave them to their kids?
Excellent post. Very thorough. 100
