"Give Lance another chance?"
In the article "Give Lance another chance?" Randy Cohen,Roxanne Jones,Kevin Powell, Frida Ghitis,Jeff Pearlman, and Shawn Klein talks about many people opinions about Lance Armstrong using performance-enhancing drugs. One person thought he could be redeem if he come clean and maybe his ban will be reasonable, another person throught since hes 42 he should just forget about it riding again, another said we hall have flaws and make mistakes, so we should judge him. Another person said well he getting point out for using drugs to cheat, all big-time cyclist should confess if they used drugs to cheat too. one person said armstrong isnt trustworthy.
The article had stated, "But Lance Armstrong, who maliciously lied for more than a decade, who I watched from my sideline seat in sports try to crush the voice of anyone who dared to call him a cheater. No, he gets no second chance from me. There are too many reasons to question his apology. Is he trying to stave off fleeing endorsement dollars? Save his LiveStrong Foundation? Avoid paying back all the sponsors he defrauded? He could at least pay back the U.S. Postal Service, especially if those are taxpayer dollars." Another example from the article stated, "Do I think he should be allowed to race again? No. Lance Armstrong racing again is not truly an option anyway -- he's almost 42.Just the same, I am thrilled that he has -- at long last -- begun to come clean. There are lessons to be learned here, beyond those pertaining to cycling. And day's end, when the cheering has stopped, there is something to be said for trying your best, even if your best doesn't result in triumph." Another example from the text is, "He cheated in a sport known for its widespread cheating; that doesn't justify his use but it does put his actions into an understandable context that makes it easier to excuse the use. Further, if Armstrong cooperates with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, his lifetime ban from cycling ought to be reduced to something more reasonable." My last example from the article stated, "See the Lance Armstrong story as a tragedy and an opportunity. It's a tragedy because he lied for so long to many people. Lying is not the way to live one's life, ever, especially if you've positioned yourself as a role model and a hero. But I am not here to judge nor convict him. We all have our flaws, we all fall short as human beings. So, yes, I do think anyone can be redeemed, and should be given another chance if he shows true remorse and make amends for his bad deeds."
I think that Armsrtong lifetime ban isnt bad at all because this man cheated for years and never once throught about the how hard the people he went up aganist worked to be the best and how hard they trained their body to ride a bike for a days at a time. I really dislike him because I feel he's not even give a remoseful apology to his fans and the people he competed aganist, he's just going it because he have to. But Armstrong need to learn from this situation, and think twice before using a drug in a sport.
This article makes me think how careless people is and how people would do anything to cheat and get by in life. This also make me think how people dont think on their action before doing and it wines up affecting them in the long run.
Good post, very thorough. 100
